Moyer, was a teacher at the Shansi schools and later became a professor of agriculture at Oberlin College. Moyer's book provides a first-hand account of the Oberlin-Shansi schools, their history, their challenges, and their achievements. He also explores the broader context of Christian missions in China and the role of Oberlin College in the development of American education in China.
