This last picture is not always accurate. Miss Elliott has for the Duc, whose mistress she had been and whose friend she continued to be, an affectionate good-will: it would be childish to deny it, but making allowance for this good-will and the inaccuracies pointed out, these memoirs retain a genuine historical value.
