This book provides an updated record of the flora of the north-eastern counties of Ireland, covering the period from the publication of the first supplement to the Flora of the North-East of Ireland in 1895 up to the present day. The original Flora was published in 1888, and the author, Stewart, was assisted by Corry in editing it. The work was, however, largely due to Stewart's efforts and energy, and it remains a major contribution to Irish botany. The vegetation of the north-eastern part of Ireland is varied, ranging from maritime and coastal habitats to deciduous woodlands, and montane heath and bog. The area is also rich in archaeological remains, which provide an insight into past environments, and the book interweaves the botanical and archaeological elements of the natural and cultural history of the counties. Many new discoveries have been made since the first supplement to the Flora was published, and this book brings together all the recently available information.
