Excerpt from Absolute Specular Reflectometer With an Autocollimator Telescope and Auxiliary Mirrors
The Strong method for measuring reflectance is used in.wany laboratories. However, an uncertainty in the angular position of the sample can lead to large errors. A novel use of an autocollimator telescope with two auxiliary mirrors (actam) can reduce this angular uncertainty and lead to more accurate measurement of reflectance. The instrumentation, its adjustment, measurement procedure, results, and uncertainties are discussed. The total uncertainty for the reflectance measurement of a gold mirror was found to be less than over.

This book presents a fascinating and complex study of the use of an autocollimator telescope and auxiliary mirrors (ACTAM) in the world of reflectance measurements. A precise method for quantifying the reflectance of a surface, the Strong method involves reflecting light off a surface twice, calculating the absolute reflectance value as the square root of the ratio of the resulting signals. The author presents a novel approach to this method, using ACTAM to minimize uncertainty in the angular position of the sample, thereby improving measurement accuracy. The author discusses the instrumentation, adjustment, and measurement procedures, as well as the results and uncertainties associated with this technique. By exploring the intricacies of this method, this book provides valuable insights into the field of reflectance measurements and its applications in various scientific disciplines.
