Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book is a comprehensive study of written examinations, as traditionally given in secondary schools, with the purpose of investigating their accuracy, content, and overall effectiveness. The author analyzes previous criticisms and arguments for and against written examinations, then provides empirical data from an extensive investigation into both the reliability of written examination grades and the content of written examinations. Critiques of written exams focus on inaccuracy, discouragement of desirable mental processes, overemphasis on memorization of facts, harm to students' health, and wasted teacher time. The author addresses these complaints, and while accepting that examinations have flaws, argues that their benefits outweigh their shortcomings and that many criticisms stem from misuse rather than inherent flaws. The study of reliability reveals that written examination grades are less reliable than the scores of standardized educational tests, with a median coefficient of reliability of .65. The author also examines the content of written examinations, with particular attention to the alignment of questions with educational objectives, and concludes the book with suggestions for improving the preparation and administration of written examinations, including strategies for reducing constant errors, decreasing variable errors, aligning content with educational goals, and simplifying administration. This book is of value for educators and researchers looking to improve the quality of student assessments. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N de rf. du vendeur 9781528540070_0
