Etat : Sehr gut. 352 S. The Smash-Up by Ali Benjamin is a bold, sharp and darkly comic novel about modern life, political tension, marriage, activism, social media and the difficulty of staying connected in a polarized world. Ethan and Zo once seemed to have a simple, successful life: he co-founded a media start-up, she was on her way to becoming a filmmaker, and their move to a rural community was meant to bring peace. But when Zo becomes consumed by political activism, accusations shake Ethan's old company, and a young houseguest enters their home, Ethan is forced to question his marriage, his past and the values he thought were secure. With biting satire, emotional insight and contemporary relevance, the novel explores how private lives can become political battlegrounds -- and how quickly comfort can turn into chaos. Small signature line: Modern life, but with extra panic, hashtags and marital turbulence.
