Synopsis

A Practical Guide to Mastering Numeracy Tests is a series of stand-alone books that are organized in different volumes. These series are organized to help students succeed in Mathematics without being overwhelmed by the numerous concepts that they need to master. Each volume deals with several related and interrelated concepts that guide the students gradually towards mastering Numeracy up to Grade 6 level and towards being successful in Numeracy Tests; especially the Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT) in Mathematics. Volume 1 Number Concepts: In this volume, students are introduced to the understanding of numbers in detail. The text begins with teaching students about the ten basic numerals and the Base-Ten System that shape the building blocks of numbers. Then, it moves along smoothly to more intricate nature and concepts of numbers, such as Roman Numerals, L.C.M., Square Numbers and Square Root, Factors, Prime Number, H.C.F., Place Value and Value, Ordering Numbers, Rounding–off numbers and other relevant concepts. The topics are presented in a logical and sequential manner with clear explanations and exercises that will allow the students to test their understanding of the concepts taught. Students are presented with a Certificate of Achievement at the end of the volume as a testament to their excellent performance in the given Mastery Tests on Number Concepts and as a motivational tool to encourage them as they move forward towards greater accomplishments and mastery of Numeracy Tests. It is hoped that such success will boost students’ confidence in the subject and help them to develop a love for Mathematics.

MS. JASMIN C. ALEXANDER has over twenty years experience in teaching Mathematics at public primary schools in the Caribbean. She has taught substantially at the upper primary school's level. She has a passion for teaching and enjoys seeing students of all cognitive abilities succeed academically. Ms. Alexander is a qualified teacher and holds an MBA-Finance from the University of Leicester, UK. At present, she is a Business Studies Teacher at a public high school in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
