Dr. William E. Smith is an assistant professor of music technology at Bowie State University and is the author of Hip Hop as Performance and Ritual (CLS Publications 2003). He has served as a board member of the Washington D.C. chapter of NARAS (the Grammies) and was the D.C. chapter president of IAJE (International Association of Jazz Education). Dr. Smith has released over six albums under his own direction and has performed and/or recorded with numerous artists in a variety of styles of music from jazz, rock, hip hop and world music. An avid composer, his music has been used on several independent and documentary films as well as the Steve Harvey Show, Real Housewives of Miami the Carson Daly Show.
