Synopsis

Alden admirably accomplishes his purpose of expounding the Proverbs by bringing out their bearing on modern life. He uses homey applications, occasional quotes from modern authors, songs and poems, all of which make his commentary an excellent source for elders, pastors, and Sunday School teachers to use. --Elmer B Smick, PCA Messenger Reflects the nuances of the Hebrew language wherever it is appropriate for the understanding of a passage. . . . a welcome addition to the literature on Proverbs. --Thomas E. McComiskey, Bible Newsletter Because of the nontechnical nature of the book, the practical relevance of the comments, and the inclusion of comments on every verse, this reviewer recommends this as one of the best popular treatments on Proverbs. This is a highly useful volume. . . --Roy B. Zuck, Bibliotheca Sacra [Alden's] exegesis is based on sound scholarship, and his homiletic comment is firmly anchored to the text. --R. N. Whybray, The Society for Old Testament Study Book List Alden uses a delightful, whimsical style [that]. . . helps the book come alive. --Russell Maatman, Pro Rege
