Jesus’ resurrection is at the core of Christian preaching because the structure of faith must be erected on this foundational fact. Without the resurrection, the Apostle Paul argued, we would be foolish to hope for reconciliation with God or for our own resurrection. Is the testimony of the first witnesses still valuable for us today? In “Resurrection Faith” Daniel Fuller offers a unique and profoundly affirmative answer. Writing as both historian and biblical scholar, Fuller demonstrates that in Acts Luke makes a compelling case for the verifiability of Jesus’ resurrection. His work especially helps readers understand and appreciate how Luke connects the fact and meaning of Jesus’ resurrection with the extension of the Gospel to the nations. Paul’s and Barnabas’ changed lives, exemplified in their missionary work, are the best evidence for the historicity of the resurrection, evidence which justifies crediting the resurrection and committing ourselves to the resurrected Jesus.

Daniel Fuller (Th. D., D. Theol., DD) has been “thinking God’s thoughts after him” for many years. As Dean and then Professor of Hermeneutics at Fuller Theological Seminary, 1965–1993, he both taught and modeled the dedicated, honest work necessary to understanding what the biblical writers had to say. His most admirable trait, to those who were blessed to learn from him, is his consistent and humble submission to the text. Dr. Fuller is now retired and living with his wife Ruth in southern California.
