Heartstrings is book 3 of the Nicholas Keating stories. Picking up where Symphony of Sorrow and Joy left off, this story, told by Nicholas, takes the reader through his life from their wedding, through the ups and downs of the early years of marriage in London, where he works in the London Symphony. Rachel, his American wife, is able to get a job working for a magazine. But as they settle into married life, they decide to start a family, despite the fact that Nicholas’s sister, Jean has a son with a rare muscle disease that will end his life before he reaches age 20. Nicholas and Rachel have their own difficulties, but eventually have a son, Evann, who becomes the joy of their lives.The story takes the reader from London to Cardiff, and on several trips across the Atlantic, through births, deaths, marriages and family secrets. It’s the story of a family with background music.

Bridget McGowan has been writing since childhood, but only finished her first novel in 1989. She considers her work fictional biography, since most of her stories tell the life story of a fictional person. Her stories are what she calls books she always wanted to read but could never find. She is married and lives with her husband in New Jersey. She considers her characters to be her children.
