Synopsis

The April issue cover features the Donkin Memorial in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. This memorial pyramid was erected in 1820. The Hill Lighthouse next to the memorial was built in 1861. Heritage and culture are key components to Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB) as a tourism destination, to such a degree that the NMB region (Port Elizabeth, Uitenhage, Despatch and Colchester) has been named after Nelson Mandela − humanitarian, freedom fighter and world icon of peace. Nelson Mandela Bay is the only geographical area which has been allowed to retain Madiba’s name and possesses qualities that resonate with that of our beloved hero.
