She watches her beloved Sunset Hotel fight for survival through the Depression, World War II, neglect, and abuse. The building survives each challenge and Clara is elated when it finally takes on new life as the Crystal Bay Hotel. Clara, in her continuing watch over her treasured hotel, becomes the guest who refuses to leave.
