He established that all species of life have descended over time from common ancestors, and in a joint publication with Alfred Russel Wallace introduced his scientific theory that this branching pattern of evolution resulted from a process that he called natural selection.

Biographie de l'auteur

The natural historian and evolutionary theorist, Charles Darwin, initially studied medicine. However, he set sail on board the H.M.S. Beagle as a naturalist. When he returned to England in 1836, he married and settled down to a quiet life of studying and writing. Darwin earned honours from academies and foreign governments, for his pioneering work.
