INSIDE INDIA, the first of the twin collections of short stories to reach readers, --the other being OVERLAPPING WORLDS, --opens a passage to India different from the one in the conventional “inside” series. Whereas the series in the category are written mostly to provide information, INSIDE INDIA is a collection of short stories whose main purpose is to delight readers with interesting narratives about life and events. The stories cover a wide range of topics and themes related to India, but they freely wander from time present to time past and the future, and move from one place to another within the country and around the world, as if there are no borders or boundaries, all the while mixing reality, fiction, and fantasy. They combine different styles from the narrative to the dramatic and the lyrical, and blend seriousness and humor all united to serve one purpose above all: to make readers enjoy the narratives and provide them with food--slow food, to be specific--for thought.

Saligrama K. Aithal has previously published two volumes of short stories MANY IN ONE (2013) and ONE IN MANY (2013). INSIDE INDIA (2016) and OVERLAPPING WORLDS (2016) are his two new additions. He has written a literary biography RIYANA: THE CHILD ONCE EVERYONE WAS (2016). Besides creative writing, Dr. Aithal has published articles on a wide range of authors and books--Indian, British, and American-- in scholarly international journals. He has edited a collection of essays Northrop Frye (1993), and he has a book on Toni Morrison ready for publication. After a long tenure at Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India, he has moved to the US and he currently lives in a suburb of Washington, DC, and teaches English at universities/ colleges in the area whenever an opportunity comes his way. He has a doctoral degree in English from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, USA.
