Synopsis

This is a real story written in Chinese about the personal experience of an elderly female intellectual. She has lived through four historical periods of China: the Republic of China before the Marco Polo Bridge (July 7) Incident, the Japanese Invasion of China, the Republic of China after World War II Victory, and the currently governing People's Republic of China. Entirely due to her elementary school and family being patriotic and boycotting the enslavement education imposed by Japanese invaders, she could have a happy childhood. However, she had to face serious hardships in the fourth historical period, even though she always did her utmost in career. Through almost 70 years carried along on the tidal wave of reality since 1949, including the protagonist, nobody could avoid having their mentality and ethical values being polluted and falling into a state of submission to the leader. Fortunately, after many moments of frustration and many periods of hardship, she gradually awoke, and realized the corruption of the society. Eventually, pure heart returns.

À propos de l'auteur

Chang-ling Sun is a retired professor of Tsinghua University (Beijing). She was born in China in 1935 and well-educated both at home and in schools (National Peking Normal University Affiliated Second Elementary School and National Peking Normal University Affiliated Girl’s High School). After graduating from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, she devoted her life to engineering and technology education in University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Tsinghua University and University of Macao, and retired in 1995.
