Life is a boring experience for nine-year old Jeremy Renton, a stranger in his own house, so he's learned to head into the far reaches of his family farm, where excitement waits in the form of his bountiful imagination. But something happens out on that land that imagination can't control, that shapes his life, and the town's very nature, in ways that he never could have fathomed. In the course of a year things change immeasurably, causing Jeremy to doubt everything he's ever known, as summer turns to fall, and winter looms on the horizon.

Sam McManus (1976- ) was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, and he spent the first 21 years of his life in the city of brotherly love. He is the author of Detours, The Absolute Contingency, and two anthologies of poetry. He also maintains a blog (samsonlinejournal.com) where he shares his thoughts and possible future novel material. While he is a writer first and foremost, he is also an English professor, a golf fan, and an eclectic lover of all music. If time travel were possible, he would travel back to 1985, just to revel in its inherent irony. These days he can be found in upstate New York with his wife of 13 years, and his two young children.
