p>Ana Silvia Contreras lives in San Diego, California, with her husband Raul Garcia and two children: Juan Carlos Hernandez and Alberto Julian Hernandez. Missives of Wisdom from an Inmate was inspired by letters sent to Contreras by her first cousin, currently serving a life sentence in a federal maximum security prison.

Contreras actively works as a public speaker, offering help to support groups whose group members want to find success in all areas of life. In addition to writing and reading, her hobbies include working out, hiking, and running.
