I have been taught from a very early age that once Jesus was crucified, Satan celebrated, thinking that he had finally won his long and ongoing battle with the Almighty. The impending resurrection came as a surprise, catching Satan off-guard and throwing his plans for universal rule down the drain. After much study, I am convinced that the opposite is true. Satan foresaw the resurrection and clearly understood its implications -- that once Jesus made it to the cross, Satan’s own days were numbered. It would be only a matter of time before Satan's freedom to roam the earth would end, culminating in his sudden relocation into a pit of fire. His only hope was in preventing Jesus from mounting the cross. He gave it everything he had but ultimately failed, because Jesus was as determined to get to the cross as Satan was to keep him from it. He knew how high the stakes were. In this book, I discuss Jesus’ three years of ministry as an intentional journey to the cross, in which every day took him a step closer to his goal of making the ultimate sacrifice for the redemption of humankind.
