Synopsis

Memorial Day, 1929.

A private investigator is found dead in the Palm Springs home of a Hollywood starlet. In the icebox – a reel of movie film. Detective Daniel Moretti’s investigation takes him from the desert heat of Palm Springs and Joshua Tree to the cool ocean breezes of Long Beach.

Along the way he crosses paths with the Hollywood elite – Chaplin, Barrymore, Stan Laurel, Lon Chaney.

Persistence of Vision’ is a taut noir thriller in the manner of Hammett, Chandler, and Ellroy. Its characters and locales are vividly drawn, and colorfully portray a time of great style and elegance.

Steven Deeble began writing in elementary school. He is an award-winning photojournalist. His micro story 'On the Run in the Getaway Car' was recently published in Lummox No. 6. 'Persistence of Vision' combines his love of Hollywood's Golden Age, the classic noir style, and a passion for California's Mojave Desert, specifically the Joshua Tree area. An avid reader, he enjoys all literature, but particularly the detective/mystery genre. 'Persistence of Vision' is his first novel.
