From the Eisner Award-winning team behind The Private Eye, BARRIER is a shockingly prescient drama about violence, language, and illegal immigration…with a spectacular sci-fi twist.
"Provocative and challenging, this work rewards patient readers and will make a good addition to graphic novel collections interested in socially engaged, formally inventive storytelling." ―Library Journal (Starred Review)
When Texas rancher Liddy and Honduran immigrant Óscar collide on the U.S.–Mexico border, neither can understand the other’s words―but both are forced to rely on trust when they’re thrust into an unimaginable encounter. Told in English and Spanish without translation, Barrier is a visually stunning, genre-bending story that explores the walls we build between nations, cultures, and each other.
Collected for the first time in its original "widescreen" format―and perfectly complementing Image's new softcover edition of THE PRIVATE EYE―this gorgeous new edition contains the entire Harvey Award-winning miniseries.

Brian K. Vaughan is the Eisner and Hugo Award-winning writer/co-creator of multiple critically acclaimed series including Saga, Paper Girls, and Y: The Last Man, as well as the upcoming graphic novel Spectators with artist Niko Henrichon, who he last collaborated with on Pride of Baghdad. Vaughan lives with his family in Los Angeles, where he occasionally dabbles in film and television, though he’s always happiest making comics.
Marcos Martin is a Catalan comic book artist whose work at Marvel and DC includes such titles as Batgirl: Year One, Breach, Dr.Strange: The Oath, Amazing Spider-man, and Daredevil. In 2013 he founded the online platform Panel Syndicate together with writer Brian K. Vaughan and illustrator/colorist Muntsa Vicente in order to distribute their creator-owned comic, The Private Eye. The series went on to win an Eisner Award for Best Digital/Webcomic and the Harvey Award for Best Online Comics Work. The Private Eye and Panel Syndicate have received critical acclaim and media attention for their role as one of the first DRM-free, pay-what-you-want comics and has continued to publish other works by the same team (Barrier, The Walking Dead: The Alien) as well as opening up to other renowned creators like Jay Faerber, Ken Niimura, David López or Albert Monteys.
Image Comics has since published both The Private Eye as a deluxe hardcover graphic novel and Barrier as a deluxe five-issue miniseries in their original widescreen format.
