Real Kids Real Food is a collection of lesson plans created and curated by Betsy Bragg to get children excited about health and nutrition. The book contains ten lessons designed to intrigue and involve students in classes or afterschool programs. Each lesson includes activities, recipes, and meditations to engage the whole child in a real-world education about the food we eat, where it comes from, and how we prepare it. Games and breathing exercises encourage children to move, play, and learn mindfulness while family tip sheets help bring the lessons home for a fully immersive experience. Students and teachers alike will embark on a ten-week exploration of real, whole foods that will leave all involved with a new respect for the role food plays in our daily lives and our overall wellbeing.

Betsy Bragg is the executive director of Optimum Health Solution and founder of Eat to Thrive and Real Kids Real Food. Her mission is to prevent obesity, chronic disease, and malnutrition in children through education and advocacy of healthy living. This sprang from her life-changing experiences at the Hippocrates Health Institute (HHI) in West Palm Beach, Florida. Crippled from arthritis, substance abuse, and a lifetime of struggling with overeating, Betsy was gifted by her son a three-week transformational life program at HHI which healed her. She was inspired to manifest her passion for healthy living by spreading nutrition information to those who need it most: at-risk, low-income children and their families. The path that brought Betsy to her chosen role as a health educator and advocate features a variety of disciplines ranging from teacher to counselor, and chef to computer consultant. Her work history includes being a director of Middlesex County Employment and Training Program for refugees and immigrants; an educator from kindergarten through college; and a principal of Lindsley Associates contracting with the United Nations, USAID, and Central American Bank in the West Indies, the Philippines, Japan, and El Salvador. Betsy has earned a bachelor’s degree from Smith College in history and English; a master’s in counseling and education from Stanford University and Harvard University; a master’s in education from Boston University in the administration of multi-cultural non-profit organizations; and a certification as a Hippocrates Health Educator.
