Robert and Karen Rieffel are both well-seasoned travelers. In the United States they have visited and seen the sights in forty of the fifty states. Most recently they took their three grandsons to Alaska for three weeks. Worldwide they have visited nineteen countries, mostly in Europe. Their first European trip was in 1971 BC (Before Children.) Since then they’ve been back to the continent on five other trips. In 2013 they took a voyage on a container ship, and Robert wrote a book on the experience. Robert taught chemistry and mathematics in Indiana for twenty-one years. Karen taught English, speech and dramatics for thirteen and a half years. Moving to Florida in 1985 Robert taught mathematics and Karen taught English, and Latin. The final ten years of Robert’s career was at the local campus of one of the state colleges where he taught algebra and statistics. In their personal lives, they have been married for 53 years and have two children who have given them five delightful, intelligent, funny, lively grandchildren. They are exceedingly proud of all of them. Two are now in college, two are in high school, and one is in middle school. All are good students and all around good kids. Currently they are planning trips to Scotland and another barge trip on the Burgundy Canal in France. In the early planning stages after those trips are an excursion to the US west coast and another container ship adventure. On the bucket list is a return trip to Greece. After that, who knows?
