Rev. ElTyna McCree Chair, Oakland Small Business Chair, Sobo Merchants Assn. ElTyna McCree, affectionately known as “queen of the airlines”, because of her innate ability to walk on water and create some of the most astounding airline testimonials. McCree now celebrating 45 years as a travel icon began her illustrious career with United airlines in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in the late 60s. There were so few blacks working then, and she continued her career at Allegheny Airlines, now U.S. Air. Her position at Allegheny was Director of Convention Services. She was named official travel coordinator of the Church of God in Christ, in 1968. Eastern and Pan Am airlines stated that her worth was 500.00 a day in 1975, because she had given them so many convention opportunities. She started her first travel agency in 1978 in her beloved Oakland, California and quickly became known as the travel agent to the stars.

The new Millennium, and its technology allows anyone, and everyone to go online and purchase their travel. Travel agencies have to charge fees, with no commission from the airlines. There are all of these fly by night travel consortiums and multi level programs that anyone can buy into, get a website, business cards, and go on fam trips, without paying the price we old timers paid. When I circulate my business cards I say” this is for you that just want to use an old fashion full service travel agent that you can communicate with, and get all of your questions answered.” One that can intercede for you when the airlines won't give you a refund, or an emergency travel fare, then you need me. The added restrictions certainly doesn't let me achieve my goals as before, but I pray, and do what I can for each client. Its the same with this book. My first born grandson, Tyrone Mason Dixon, which It took me forever to get, at four years old, used to ask me when reading him a story” is this book fiction or non fiction.” Imagine that! This book is certainly non fiction. If you are down for a good story of pain, disappointment, failure, perseverance, endurance, resilience, faith, victory, and hope. Then this is your read. Imagine a young woman driving across country with a five year old. Never having lived away from home. I left a small steel town, arrived in a metropolitan city, and took it by storm.
