Synopsis

In a stress-filled world, it can be challenging to create a positive, healthy, peaceful, and comforting space within your home, and within yourself. In Creating Healing Space, psychologist Adwoa Akhu shares thoughtful design suggestions as well as meditations and rituals rooted in African and multicultural traditions that will enable you to create serenity and positivity within your living space and within yourself. Over the years, Dr. Akhu has had the opportunity to provide therapy in a number of settings, as well as in her own therapeutic space. She has experienced the impact physical space has on her patients and on herself. There is an energetic relationship between objects in physical space and spiritual space that impacts mind, body and spirit. Dr. Akhu shares her experience, as well as relevant research, to help readers create physical environments that support healing – whether it be from trauma, anxiety, depression, or other psychological challenges. She also teaches readers to create internal space for self-healing by teaching readers how to meditate and develop positive affirmations and rituals that support psychological healing. Creating Healing Space includes quick reference charts to help readers identify design options.

À propos de l'auteur

Born and raised by a young single mother in one of New York City's roughest neighborhoods, Dr. Akhu knew from a young age that she would grow up to be a helper and a healer. Today, she is a NY State Licensed Clinical Psychologist with extensive experience in the areas of trauma, depression, anxiety, stress management, spirituality, relationships and intimate partner abuse.
