Synopsis
Originally published in 1843 this text is from the later 1909 edition which has a few corrections. A very detailed account of the History of what was in the 1800's known as the Sandwich Islands (Hawaiian Islands) starting from ancient history through 1843 along with an insightful overview of the American missionary history in the islands from 1820 to 1843. This book is somewhat written in narrative form making it not only informing but enjoyable to read. Also has a chapter on what is known as the "Great Awakening" revival in the late 1830's where thousands of native Hawaiians fell under deep conviction and converted to Christianity.This edition has been produced using restored flowing text from an original and is NOT a "Scan Copy."

Rev. Sheldon Dibble was a New England missionary to the Hawaiian Islands. He arrived in the 4th company of missionaries to sail to Hawaii. He was first stationed in Hilo, Hawaii (1831) then later at the mission school at Lahainaluna on Maui island (1836). His native Hawaiian students helped to gather much of the native history in his book.
