The Day My Life Went to the Dogs is a group of connecting stories filled with the humor, pathos, and richness pets bring to us. Judy Applefeld starts with an introduction of who she is, the influences of some of the people who helped shape her character, and why she sees things as she does. From injured rescues to the orphaned, from canines to avians, she relates how she began to understand the differences in each and how to integrate them into her pet family. The chapters explore how the group dynamics proved ever changing with each new addition or loss. The culmination of these tales comes together in the final chapter “Things I've Learned from my Pets,” a collection of useful maxims, anecdotes, and learnings, based on the thirty years of experience and adventures that come with pet ownership.

Judy writes to share the joys and benefits of pet ownership, especially dogs. She has lived with an assortment of quirky pets, including a bird with no sense of direction and a pit bull who gets lost trying to find her way out of a lacrosse net. She currently lives with a Corgi-Shepherd mix (you figure that out!) a pit-boxer mix, 11 parakeets, one cockatiel, and one very opinionated conure. Judy possesses a sense of humor and wit that shines through, making these tales enjoyable, and laugh-out-loud funny. She has finally found the job of a lifetime; being paid to play with dogs all day at a doggie day care.
