Two seventeen year olds, Jack Townsend and Tom Dash make choices that result in a life of crime for one and a life of integrity for the other. Tom Dash robs a bank, embezzles money from an employer and murders for hire. For one year he escapes from the authorities. He carries a deep hatred for Jack Townsend and his need for revenge drives him on an explosive path, which nearly destroys Jack's life and his promising golf career. Jack's friend and lover, Ashley Turner saves his life and captures Tom Dash for the FBI and police. Jack learns much about living and love as he follows his passion for golf. The novel contrasts in vivid detail the wide divide between goodness and evil.

Most writers come from different backgrounds than William Vallar. He graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. He did graduate work in Finance and worked in the Financial Services Industry for most of his working life. Why writing? He says that he has had a love of reading fiction, any kind of fiction, and that love propelled him in his retirement to try his hand at writing. He uses as a background to his story his skill at golf, a game introduced to him by his father and one he’s played beginning at age five. He played in high school, college and won several tournaments at the country club level. He tells the story of attending a writer’s workshop three years ago and everyone there, majored in either English or Creative Writing. His Accounting Degree didn’t fit. Neither did his age, because the oldest other participant’s age didn’t equal one-half his age. He did learn about the craft of writing fiction and he feels indebted to the group for all its help in putting together words that painted a picture of what he wanted the reader to see.
