…powerful arms slammed the shovel into the skulls of both men, knocking them forward; one to fall onto the dancing flames, the other to land across the big lap of the third man, Cabaan. The one in the fire shrieked as he rolled from the enraged blaze, his thin linen shirt exploding into an inferno encircling his torso; his slapping hands and pain filled face burnt black by hot coals refusing to let go. With vengeance, not mercy, the shovel struck again. This time as a death spear to split the smoldering neck; to sever fragile vertebrae hiding deep within. And as the second man worked to stand, two black gloves heaved an ax to slam a razor thin edge into his rising head; the impact opening the skull from crown to chin to push reddened grey ooze around the embedded blade. A black clothed knee fell upon Cabaan’s chest to exhaust all breath before a black knife tore soft larynx and thin palette. An abrupt twist of the sharp invader returned silence to the night’s darkness…except for the gurgles of the river and a few sparks jumping from the excited fire. And Max smiled, “El diablo te espera!” REFLECTION!
