À propos de l'auteur

Dr. Ellison’s gained his Bachelor’s degree by attending Carnegie-Mellon’s 9-year Engineering night-school program. He advanced from draftsman to cost-estimator to structural designer. During this period he learned the large benefit of working for modest size, rapidly growing, high-end consulting firm grow; in comparison with large international firms or a stagnant, small specialty contractor.

He was offered a fellowship for his Masters and Ph.D. degrees as a full-time student at CMU. During his 3-year graduate program, Dr. Ellison, did continuous part-time work in the geotechnical and civil engineering. During the total 12 years of school and work, he had several key mentors who showed the impact one could have by pursuing a career that they were both very good at and passionate about.

After graduation, he joined the small, but growing, D’Appolonia Consulting Engineering firm. In a few years, he created the position of Executive VP of Corporate Development. In this role, he developed nationally recognized environmental, waste management and mining practices and opened and major regional offices throughout the nation.

In 1984, Dr. Ellison founded Environmental Solutions, Inc (ESI), a leading West Coast environmental consulting company. In 1994, he sold ESI to a small public engineering company (TRC). Three years later, the TRC Board asked him to be the CEO of TRC. During his 7-years as CEO, TRC grew from about $80 million to $400 million annually. The growth included the purchase of 15 well established engineering and consulting firms varying in size from $5 to $30-million in revenue. The TRC stock price grew more than 10-fold during this period.

Dr. Ellison has been the author and editor of several widely-used Engineering and Design Manuals. He also has been the author of hundreds of Environmental Impact Reports for major and often controversial projects. Those reports were always vigorously reviewed and critiqued by the public and regulatory agencies.

Throughout his career, he hired and mentored hundreds of Master’s and Ph.D. level engineering, science and business professionals, most of whom became recognized leaders by both their peers and clients. Nine of those professionals went on to build their own successful companies with annual revenues of $10 to $270 million. Dr. Ellison remains committed to helping young people reach their highest potential by finding a career that produces both happiness and success.
