Sir James Thomas Knowles (1831–1908) was a prominent English architect and editor whose retelling of the Arthurian myths helped reestablish British legends as a fixture of the public imagination. With his close friend, the poet laureate Alfred Tennyson, Knowles founded the Metaphysical Society in 1869 to attempt a reconciliation of ideas between men of science and religion.
