Synopsis
ln the hope that I may contribute something to the stock of knowledge of the early history of this town, and particularly in regard to an event of so much importance as the burning of the town by the Indians in 1675, I accept your invitation to deliver an historical address upon the anniversary of that transaction. The Indians fixed the day, two hundred years ago, on the 5th of October (O.S.), which corresponds to October 16th of the present calendar. The place and hour, I leave to you.
