While reading vast amounts of cello literature and studies, I found there was an aspect I was missing. I still did not know the position, in thumb position, that I was in. I wanted a road map of where I was when I was in the higher register of the cello, instead of reaching for notes. I created this system because I found that it made practicing easier. There are already names assigned to some of the lower positions, but I did not understand how one position could be a half step and another position could be a whole step. For example, it is accepted that 1st position to 2nd position is a whole step and 2nd to 3rd position is a half step. That did not seem correct to me, so I organized positions by half steps. My goal with this system is not to alter cello playing, but to make it easier. My cello position system is a supplement to the already existing great literature out there. There are many cellists and musicians who have added to my education, and there are many musicians and non-musicians who have led me to this system. I am in debt to all these people for creating this. We all have a chance to add to the literature, pedagogy, and practice of music. I am supremely thankful for the great force of the universe that led me to this design, and this is my humble and small contribution in unending gratitude.
