Prayer is a very powerful tool God has provided for believers. Prayer impacts God's sovereign control over their lives. Through prayer, saints can offer up their petitions to God, and intercede on behalf of others. Prayer enables believers to tell God about their concerns and express their total dependency on Him. Prayer cements the Christian armor of truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and the word of God (Eph. 6: 11-17). Christians should never worry about anything because they can pray about everything. The Apostle Paul encourages them “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:6-7). Believers should pray without ceasing (1 Thess. 5:17). God is interested in the challenges believers face. Prayer solicits His help in overcoming them (Ps. 55:22). God expects believers to seek His help first (2 Chron. 20:3; Prov. 7:15). There is nothing is too hard for Him (Gen. 18:14; Jer. 32: 27; Luke 1:37). God is greater than any problem believers will ever encounter. Prayer enables the faithful to obtain God’s goodness (Ps. 84:11), guidance (Ps. 32:8), strength (Isa. 40:31), grace (2 Cor. 12:9), and forgiveness (1 John 1:9). Believers express their thankfulness to God in prayer (1 Thess. 5:18). Their gratitude signifies the right disposition of mind, and prevailing motives for additional blessings. Prayer, Patience, and Power examines aspects of the prayer life of Moses, Gideon, King Jehoshaphat, Jonah, Nehemiah, and the Apostle Paul who successfully petitioned God. These saints are selected because of the important lessons they convey to Christians today on how to approach God in prayer, and how to wait on His demonstration of power and deliverance. Only one prayer request is discussed for each follower, with biblical confirmation of God’s response to their petition. An overview of the life of each believer is provided that, upon further investigation, offers additional evidence of their faith and commitment to God.
