Since the 19th century Spanish authors have made statements of concern about the deterioration of ecological conditions in Spain. They have issued such statements not only in articles and essays but also in creative works like novels, stories, and poems. Studied from our present perspective, these ongoing observations constitute a harbinger of events to come. The present book reviews and analyzes the ecological comments of Spanish authors over the past century and compares them with the relevant scientific literature of today.

À propos de l'auteur

Thomas R. Franz received his PhD in Spanish literature from the University of Kansas and is Professor Emeritus of Spanish at Ohio University, where he taught nineteenth, twentieth, and twenty-first century Spanish literature. He is the author of books on Unamuno, Galdós, Valera, and Antonio Machado as well as approximately one hundred studies on Spanish writers of the last one hundred and fifty years. He is a founding editor of DECIMONÓNICA, is on the editorial board of HISPANIC STUDIES REVIEW, and is a member of the "comité científico" of CUADERNOS CDE LA CÁTEDRA MIGUEL DE UNAMUNO.
