For the next two years, Lwow was under Russian control. George’s brother Stefan joined the Polish resistance and ran messages to older members of the organization. George would join too, but fate would tear him from his home.

After Russia and Germany turned on each other, Lwow came under German control. Caught in a gestapo roundup, sixteen-year-old George and other boys were relocated to Germany to work on the German Air Force’s vital telephone lines. There he would endure two years of grueling labor.

Through it all, George dreamed of escaping and reaching the Allied front lines. It was a dream that was realized as the tides of war turned against the Axis—a dream that would bear unexpected fruit and change the young man’s life in ways he scarcely dared imagine.

À propos de l'auteur

After surviving World War II, George Trojan migrated to the United States in 1946. After a year in his new country, Trojan enlisted in the US Army, where he served for six years.

Trojan later entered Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. His plans to pursue a career in the State Department were dashed when Senator McCarthy decreed Polish immigrants potential supporters of the USSR.

Trojan adapted, moving into the private sector and working for construction and mining interests. His work would take him to many locations around the globe, including Saudi Arabia.

In 1978, Trojan returned to the United States to become an account manager in Virginia before moving to corporate headquarters in New Jersey. For the last twelve years of his career, he worked in a new store in Casper, Wyoming. Trojan retired in 1991.
