Synopsis

This book is an i nvitation to join the Common Good Nation. It is time to create a parallel nation based on a more mature worldview. Also, where anyone on Earth can easily join or leave it at any time because it is defined by agreement rather than geography. It is also time to create a more mature form of democracy. The geographically defined nations provide us the possibility of creating in the private sector a nation defined by agreement that can eventually become more important to people while they continue to be fully responsible as citizens of both. It is not 1776. It is 2017. Our human societies have matured. It is time to honor this maturation by providing the opportunity for people to join a nation that is based on our current level of human maturity. The Common Good Nation (CGN) you will herein be invited to join will be loved by the geographically nations. They will accurately view it as a free research and development program. Whatever it creates that works well can be copied or, if deemed best left in the private sector, supported with tax incentives. The CGN is based on people choosing their leaders from within groups of less than one hundred people where everyone knows everyone well. This puts an end to millions of people going to polls to choose between two people to be the President of their country where almost none know both well. It also ends campaign fundraising, marketing tricks, fake news, and all the other troubles with choosing leaders that way. It is also very difficult to reach a majority decision on an issue where the worldviews of the citizenry are all over the map. This is the result of primarily defining a nation by the land it occupies. More quick and wise decisions can be made when all the people in the nation share a particular worldview. The CGN described in this book is based on a particular worldview. Only those who share it will join. It will also use a more mature democratic process briefly described above. There is no taxation: except for a small annual fee to confirm a person as a citizen for the following year, all expenses are paid for with fees or donations. If you share its worldview and want to explore its use of a more mature form of democracy, we invite you to read this book and consider joining with us to create the CGN. You can do so by going to our website: www.commongoodnation.org.

À propos de l'auteur

Terry Mollner, was one of the pioneers of socially responsible and community investing. A founder of the Institute for Community Economics. With Wayne Silby those screens were used to establish the Calvert Family of Socially Responsible Mutual Funds the first family to such funds. Today it is the largest with $12 billion under management. The team at ICE was also the creators of one of the first “community development financial institutes.” It made loans to low income housing projects, social and cooperative enterprises in low income communities, and microloan programs (small uncollateralized business loans). This led to Dr. Mollner taking the lead to create the Calvert Foundation to raise capital from investors to fund this industry. Dr. Mollner continues to serve on the board of the Calvert Foundation and is now on the Calvert Advisory Board of the Funds that works to be sure high standards are sustained as socially responsible investment is becoming mainstream investing. In 2000, he assisted Ben & Jerry’s need to be bought by a multinational to deal with its distribution requirements. As part of its purchase by Unilever, he and the board arranged for a contract that allowed Ben & Jerry’s to both continue to operate as an independent company and obligated Unilever to continue to spend the same percentage of its budget on social activism. Ben & Jerry’s is the only company from the last half of the 20th century bought by a multinational to sign such a contract. Terry has been on its board since 2000. Dr. Mollner is founder and chair of Stakeholders Capital. Since 1973 he has been the founder and executive director of Trusteeship Institute. Its current projects are the creation of Trusts for All Children, Inc. a membership program to create $24,000 starter trusts for the children of members with an equal amount of its earnings creating trusts for poor children around the world, and Haiti Orphanage Sponsorship Trust to consistently fund an orphanage in Haiti with thirty-five children in it. He is also the author of The Love Skill: We Are Each Mastering the 7 Layers of Human Maturity, Common Good Capitalism is Inevitable, Eldering: What We Do Between Enlightenment and Death, and two books and many articles on the Mondragon Cooperatives in the Basque Region of northern Spain. As part of experiments to learn more about re-villaging our lives in a modern context, he is one of the founders of: Spanish House, Hearthstone Village, and Friends and Lovers Community.
