When fourteen-year-old K. Zuba repeatedly woke up shaking in sweat-soaked sheets, she tried to pretend everything was fine. But it wasn’t. When the lump appeared on her neck, she finally had to admit that something was very wrong.
After being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease, Zuba went through nine months of chemotherapy and radiation while watching her peers enjoy routine high school activities. Not until a support group allowed her to share some of her pain was she able to feel hope again. With the help of other seriously ill patients, she learned lessons of love and friendship that inspired her to become a physician assistant.
As an adult, Zuba faced serious late-term effects of her cancer treatments with the same unwavering resilience. But she had to dig deep for strength when her father received his own devastating diagnosis. While transforming from care receiver to caregiver, Zuba tirelessly advocated for her dad.
In her compelling memoir, Chasing My Tomorrow, Zuba now chronicles her journey from teenage cancer survivor to palliative care provider. Her story of overcoming unimaginable obstacles by refusing to give up will inspire others who need to summon inner strength to surmount the seemingly insurmountable.
