This volume is designed to help educators, practitioners and patients teach evidence-based medicine. Until the middle of the last century, most interventions in clinical practice were based on the experience of generations of physicians. The evolution of epidemiology, and subsequently clinical epidemiology, resulted in methods that allowed the objective critique of all therapies used in clinical practice. Multi-centre/randomized clinical trials have made it possible to answer fundamental questions about common clinical interventions. For many reasons, the knowledge gained from good quality clinical practice. Policies derived from critical appraisal of the literature needs to be translated into recommendations that are understandable to patients. Conveying this information to clinicians is a principal mission of this title. The book is organized into two parts. The first 12 chapters outline the basic skills and knowledge required to teach and learn about critical thinking applied to medical literature. The second section consists of the application of critical thinking to 27 common questions encountered in family/general practice.
