Clyde Rose was born on Fox Island on the southwest coast of Newfoundland.
He attended school in Burgeo following which he studied at Memorial University where he later became an assistant professor in the English Department. He has worked as a teacher, a naval diving officer, lecturer with the Commonwealth Institute in the U.K. and a book and software publisher.
