Jane Lancaster holds a Ph.D. in history from Brown University. A high school teacher for many years, she has won several awards, including the prestigious Christa McAuliffe Fellowship, and is now a lecturer on women's history. She has published Inquire Within, a history of the Providence Athenaeum, a private subscription libraty, and her numerous articles have appeared in such publications as the Providence Journal and the Journal of American History, She lives in Providence, Rhode Island.
