Guillermo Vicente Vidal's story begins in 1950s Cuba, when Fidel Castro overthrew Fulgencio Batista's government and social tensions were high. In 1961 Vidal and his brothers were sent to American through Operation Peter Pan, a CIA operation in which thousands of Cuban children were brought to America to protect them from Castro's revolutionary government. Inspired by his second wife, Gabriela, to reconnect with his Cuban heritage, Vidal visited Cuba in 2001 to attempt to understand how his life would have been different had he not left as a 10-year-old boy.
