About the author

Heather M. Young PhD, ARNP, is a gerontological nurse practitioner with an extensive background in working with older adults. In her role as clinician, researcher, and administrator, she has developed an appreciation for the complexity of choices older adults face in regard to where they should live. She has been able to apply her research and clinical knowledge towards the day-to-day concerns of both residents and staff of retirement communities.

Rheba de Tornyay EdD, RN, offers 40 years of experience in nursing practice and as a nurse educator. She is a member of the National Advisory Council of the San Francisco Institute on Aging, a Trustee of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and co-chair of the University of Washington Retirement Association Housing Facility Committee. A senior herself, she brings firsthand experience to the process and feelings involved in making a decision to part with possessions and move.
