MICHELLE REGAN DONOVAN, BSN, RN, is a principal with Ambulatory Care Advisory Group, Inc., in Chicago. A graduate of Georgetown University, she has more than 20 years′ health care experience in the clinical, operational, and administrative realms of outpatient care. She lectures and writes frequently on topics related to outpatient and emergency care, focusing on strategies to enhance service delivery and contain costs. Ms. Donovan serves as advisor to various national committees, groups, and organizations on topics related to emergency, ambulatory and home care, facility design, and industry–focused environmental trAnds. THEODORE A. MATSON, MA, CHE, is president of Ambulatory Care Advisory Group, Inc., a Chicago–based firm providing professional advisory, consultation, and management services exclusively for ambulatory care and emergency services. Previously, he was a manager with the Division of Ambulatory Care and Society for Ambulatory Care Professionals of the American Hospital Association, also in Chicago. Mr. Matson is a national and international speaker on ambulatory care, and frequently writes about ambulatory care topics. He is coauthor and editor of several texts, including The Hospital Emergency Department: Returning to Financial Viability (1986), Restructuring for Ambulatory Care: A Guide to Reorganization (1990), Information Systems for Ambulatory Care (1990), and The Hospital Emergency Department: A Guide to Operational Excellence (1992), all published by American Hospital Publishing, Inc. He currently is editor of "Outpatient Care," a column devoted to outpatient technologies in the monthly journal Administrative Radiology. A graduate of the University of Iowa, Mr. Matson is a member of both the Society for Ambulatory Care Professionals and a diplomate of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
