BRIAN DOYLE is the Editor of Portland Magazine, winner of three consecutive national gold medals as the finest small-circulation university magazine in the United States. He has authored five collections of essays and his writing has also appeared in both The Best American Essays (1998, 1999, and 2003) and The Best Spiritual Essays. He won the Christopher award in 1996 as well as the Catholic Press Association Book award the same year. He lives with his family in Portland, Oregon.
