Hardcover. Etat : Near Fine. Etat de la jaquette : Fine. 1st Edition. Association copy, inscribed on the half title page: "For brother Joe [Meeker], with warmest regards, Paul Shepard." Uncommon signed. Also included is a near fine signed first paperback edition of Joseph Meeker's The Comedy of Survival: Studies in Literary Ecology (International College, Guild of Tutors Press, 1980). Meeker, who lived on Vashon Island in Puget Sound, was a PhD biologist who is credited with originating the idea of ecocriticism, which he first called "literary ecology" in this influential book, arguing that the dominance of "tragic" narratives has defined human's relationship to, and degradation of, the earth, and that a more playful "comic" narrative and mode could be a solution, a way to a better relationship. Thus a great association between influential environmental writers. Shepard is known for his wide-ranging contributions to deep ecological thought, especially the "Pleistocene paradigm," and was recognized with Guggenheim and Rockefeller grants. A very near fine book with a hint of dusting to top face of text block; in a fine jacket. N° de réf. du vendeur ABE-1680586809650
