Synopsis

Portrait of Palm Springs is photographer Tom Brewster's lush portrayal of Palm Spring's stunning landscapes and cityscapes. In Brewster's 140 images taken over 25 years, you can see the desert beauty that surrounds this unusual community of movie stars and golfers?from the rugged mountains of Joshua Tree National Park to the curlew-dotted Salton Sea, from the dunes at the Coachella Valley Preserve to the green expanses of the area's numerous golf courses. Brewster captures the stark grandeur and vivid contrasts of this desert community: the native fan palms at Indian Canyons and the snow-covered Mount San Jacinto; the bronze statues of famous Palm Springs residents Sonny Bono and Lucille Ball; and the grape-laden vineyards of the Coachella Valley. Brewster captures ?images of just about every aspect of Coachella Valley life, ? writes naturalist James W. Cornett in his foreword to the book. ?I can think of no other photographer whose work merits a photographic expos? of the Coachella Valley in all of its forms.? From the flora to the fauna to the famous, Brewster's book is an inspired tribute to Palm Springs
