The 5th International Workshop on Deep Inelastic Scattering and QCD (DIS'97) covered high-low-x structure functions, proton densities, proton spin, inclusive and exclusive hadronic final states, determinations of diffractive scattering at hard scales and featured the latest results from HERA, the Tevatron, and fixed target experiments. The introductory plenary talks on the first day and the working group and workshop summaries on the last day provided an in-depth overview of the status and progress of the field. In between, more than 150 talks in the parallel sessions of the five working groups presented in detail the experimental and theoretical results of the past year. The high quality of the presentations stimulated lively discussions often leading to new insights into the issues at hand.
