Synopsis

The Historic American Building Survey (HABS) and the Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) collections are dedicated to preserving Americas architectural history by gathering a diverse range of historic photographs and architectural designs of buildings throughout the country. These collections are some of the largest and most often used by the Library of Congress. Along with over 100 black and white photos of covered bridges from Pennsylvania gathered from the HABS/HAER website, this book includes detailed architectural plans that feature the wooden frame structure of the bridges. Pictures of the interior walls and underside of the bridges will allow readers to compare the different carpentry techniques used to complete each structure. Colour photos provide a vivid look at the bridges themselves, as well as the beauty of the surrounding landscape. GPS coordinates of many of the locations are also included, courtesy of www.ohiobarns.com, a website maintained by Ohio resident Mike MacCarter.
