Synopsis

The Historic American Building Survey (HABS) and the Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) collections are dedicated to preserving Americas architectural history by gathering a diverse range of historic photographs and architectural designs of buildings throughout the country. These collections are some of the largest and most often used by the Library of Congress. Along with seventy black and white photos of barns across the country from the HABS/HAER website, this book includes over ninety architectural plans that feature the wooden frame joinery used to construct the barns. In this book, readers will find unique architectural structures, such as the round George Hall Barn, as well as barns that played a critical role in several different Civil War battles. A brief history of many of the locations is also included, courtesy of material found on the HABS/HAER website.
